Alaska Off-Road Warriors, what would you drive?

I have been watching every episode of this show, it's awesome. Aside from the unsafe winching and lack of seat belts but, hey seeing a dude cut in half with a winch cable is good TV amirite.

For those who haven't seen it, the basic premise is 5 teams "race" across Alaska, south to north. They have stages to complete everyday and the team with the lowest cumulative time wins. All of the driving is done off road. Winner's get $100,000.

So.... what vehicle would you use for this?

I would go with a Jeep Rubicon Unlimited with the JK-8 Conversion Kit

Kinja'd!!!

I think it would need:

6 inch lift

Rock sliders and every piece of undercarriage protection available (skid plates, oil pan cover etc).

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

16,000 lb winch (because overkill)

Kinja'd!!!

Kevlar Reinforced mud tires.

Most of the really bad terrain they have had to deal with has been mud and bogs. I would want to be prepared for that stuff and have tires that would be good enough for everything else.

Kinja'd!!!

Hood Rack for tools and stuff

Kinja'd!!!

Hitch storage rack for more storage

Kinja'd!!!

Bed storage like this. It would have to be custom because I don't think anyone makes one for the JK-8 and, I would put some boxes for tools and stuff in the middle of the uprights on the sides.

I don't think here wouldn't be a need for lots of extra fuel, food, or drinking water, I am guessing they are given all of that every night at "camp." I think there would really only be a need for a can or 2 of fuel, extra clothes, sleeping bags, a small tent, and hygiene stuff. Every other inch of the vehicle could be full of spare parts and tires, and whatever tools might be needed to dig myself out when I get stuck.

Here is episode 1 for anyone who hasn't seen it.

BTW, I want the Leigh brothers to win because, I think they will blow the $100,000 on meth and Jim Beam.

Neat... I think this is a great setup...

BTW, the publication time of blog entries on Kinja is quirky, but easily understood. If you start a post and save it as a draft, and then re-edit it, it will keep the original publication time. What you need to do is edit the publication time to be 'scheduled' to a more current time. I would recommend against re-sharing articles the way you did. Doing so, and not providing any new art at the top of your 'share', results in an uninteresting blog entry with no clickbait-worthy lead image.

I'm gonna have to go with a 5 ton if we are being reckless. Realistically though, probably a 60-series Cruiser. Almost nothing to go wrong, world proven capability, can be fixed with a hammer, and has plenty of storage room.

Thanks for the advice, I will remember that for next time. I am going to try to start posting more thought out detailed stuff. That bit of knowledge will come in handy.

I added a click baitey lead image. BTW is there a way to change the time so it reflects my time-zone? I have been wondering that for a while but have never tried figured it out.

Kinja'd!!!

1990 Suburban Diesel

I would put:

-4 inch lift

-new bumper, sliders, skid plates, standard stuff

- two 16000 lb winches front and rear

-roof rack

-LED lights

Tones of space inside, parts are cheap, the diesel engine would probably run on anything, that's a winning formula.

It is on the history channel every Sunday night. You can catch up on Hulu or youtube though. Hulu is better because it doesn't have all the stuff on the top half of the video.

I was thinking 5-ton too bu,t I think with the mud it would just get stuck too often.

Nah, just make a new path around it. I am kind of conflicted on who I want to win. I love the War Hammer.

I thought about a diesel too for the torque and range but I have to hear anyone say anything about fuel on the show, that, is why I think it is provided. That kind off makes the range concerns a moot point.

After adding the winch I think the torque to get unstuck isn't really necessary.

I forgot about the a rear winch probably going to need that.

The lights wouldn't really be needed as they do all the wheeling during the day. They could come in handy at camp but, I don't think their camps are very primitive.

interesting. I never saw any promo for it.

I can't watch it on YouTube or Hulu because no high speed internet where I live. Yes, rural Ohio still lacks internet
